Prof. Eng. Christopher Maina Muriithi

Prof. Maina is a distinguished Professional Engineer and academic leader with over 23 years of experience in power systems, engineering education, and sustainable infrastructure development. He is a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), a Council Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), and a licensed Solar PV installer and trainer certified by EPRA.

He is actively involved in national efforts to integrate Artificial Intelligence into engineering practice and education, having designed and led multiple AI and smart grid training programs tailored for engineers. His leadership combines academic rigor, field experience, and visionary policy engagement. Prof. Maina is currently spearheading grant initiatives aimed at transforming access to clean energy through intelligent energy planning and community-based innovations.

He was ranked third nationally among researchers in the Engineering Special Interest Group (SIG Engineering) based on the number of publications indexed in Scival Scopus (2018–2023). In 2024, he received the National Outstanding Researcher Award in the category of Physical Sciences, Technology and Innovation for his contributions to knowledge and innovation.

Prof. Eng. Christopher Maina Muriithi is an accomplished grant writer and principal investigator with extensive experience in securing competitive funding for engineering innovation and community development. He led the successful acquisition of a prestigious UNTFHS grant as Principal Investigator for the project titled “CDEAP: AI-Driven Rural Grid Visibility and Community Engagement”, awarded a total of USD 962,500 (approx. KES 125,125,000). The project focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance energy access, reliability, and participatory planning in rural Kenya. This achievement reflects his ability to align multidisciplinary research with global development priorities and demonstrates strong leadership in coordinating multi-stakeholder collaborations.

Eng. Dorothy Wadhwa Maina, MSc

Eng. Dorothy Wadhwa Maina is a visionary Chemical Engineer, OSHA-certified trainer, and Programme Coordinator for BSc. Petroleum Engineering at Kenyatta University. With over 20 years of combined experience in industry and academia, she is a fierce advocate for women in STEM, occupational safety, and inclusive engineering innovation.

Dorothy has led curriculum development, served in multiple acting chairperson roles, and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Cape Town. She is the co-inventor of a patented solar-powered multi-storey garden system, and has been feted multiple times for her mentorship and leadership within the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

She also contributes to national and regional dialogue on engineering standards, energy transitions, and STEM empowerment across East Africa through her involvement in advisory boards and research collaborations. Her leadership style blends deep technical knowledge with a heart for empowerment and community growth.
